Radiation driven atmospheres of O-type stars: constraints on the mass–luminosity relation of central stars of planetary nebulae

چکیده
Recent advances in the modelling of stellar winds driven by radiation pressure make it possible to fit many wind-sensitive features in the UV spectra of hot stars, opening the way for a hydrodynamically consistent determination of stellar radii, masses, and luminosities from the UV spectrum alone. It is thus no longer necessary to assume a theoretical mass–luminosity relation. As the method has been shown to work for massive O stars, we are now able to test predictions from the postAGB evolutionary calculations quantitatively for the first time. Here we present the first rather surprising consequences of using the new generation of model atmospheres for the analysis of a sample of central stars of planetary nebulae.

Radiation-driven winds of hot luminous stars XV. Constraints on the mass–luminosity relation of central stars of planetary nebulae
We present a new model atmosphere analysis of nine central stars of planetary nebulae. This study is based on a new generation of realistic stellar model atmospheres for hot stars; state-of-the-art, hydrodynamically consistent, spherically symmetric model atmospheres that have been shown to correctly reproduce the observed UV spectra of massive Population I O-type stars. The information provide...
متن کاملLINEAR PULSATION CHARACTERISTICS OF MIRA VARIABLE STARS
The linear adiabatic pulsation-periods of Mira variable stars have been derived. Approximately 2701[1]models were calculated for M = 0.7 MΘ to 2 MΘ stars with radii from 180 RΘ to 340 RΘ and luminosities from 2800 LΘ to 10,000 LΘ. The chemical composition of all models is (X,Z) = (0.7,0.02). From the result of this study, linear relations on Luminosity-Period-Mass relationship and luminosity-pe...
متن کاملClumping in the winds of O-type CSPNs
Recent studies of massive O-type stars present clear evidences of inhomogeneous and clumped winds. O-type (H-rich) central stars of planetary nebulae (CSPNs) are in some ways the low mass–low luminosity analogous of those massive stars. In this contribution, we present preliminary results of our on-going multi-wavelength (FUV, UV and optical) study of the winds of Galactic CSPNs. Particular emp...
متن کاملThe Circumstellar Extinction of Planetary Nebulae
We analyze the dependence of circumstellar extinction on core mass for the brightest planetary nebulae (PNe) in the Magellanic Clouds and M31. We show that in all three galaxies, a statistically significant correlation exists between the two quantities, such that high core mass objects have greater extinction. We model this behavior, and show that the relation is a simple consequence of the gre...

The discovery of the " 21 " µm and " 30 " µm emission features in Planetary Nebulae with Wolf-Rayet central stars ⋆ Abstract. We report the discovery of the " 21 " µm and " 30 " µm features in the planetary nebulae around the hydrogen-deficient stars HD 826 and HD 158269. The carriers of these features are known to be produced in outflows around carbon-rich stars. This discovery demonstrates th...
